Weekend Remodel

Late last week I got an itch to put in a backsplash. I've always loved white kitchens. I've pinned a million of them on Pinterest, like this one:

and this one:

Common elements in many of the kitchens I love are: lots of windows, white cabinetry, and white subway tile backsplashes. I already have white cabinets and there's not much I can do about adding more windows. Sooooooooooo, that leaves the backsplash. After doing a little research on the internet I was convinced I could install it myself. And that's exactly what I did. It was back breaking work, and I regretted not forking up the money to rent a wet saw. But I needed to do this on the cheap so I did it the hard, frustrating way - with a hand saw. I have to say though, the results are wonderful! My kitchen is so much brighter and looks much more "polished."

A pic of my handy work:

While I was at it, I decided to spruce up the room even more with new switch plates for the outlets (see above) and new hardware for the drawers.

These are inexpensive touches that really finish a space. I hope I've added some value to our home, if not, at least I'm enjoying the update!

My next project might be building a new dining table like this one or this one. We'll see if I can work up the courage :)

Congratulations! You've become quite an accomplished do-it-yourselfer. You can thank your Dad for the gene marked "I can do anything I set my mind to do", especially in the arena of home improvement. That table looks like quite an undertaking - go for it, and GOOD LUCK!

No way, Linds, that looks awesome!! After watching some professionals install a backsplash in our house a few years ago, I can't believe you did that yourself!!! I'm in awe!
